She Brave Soul – The Neighbourhood Council
I just got back from a concert, which I will write more about tomorrow.
Tonight, however, I have something to disclose.
BRAIDS (formerly known as The Neighbourhood Council) are my new favourite band.
Every single time I’ve seen them perform, they blow every other band playing right out of the water.
Every show is better than the last.
They constantly manage to incorporate new sounds into their densely layered compositions.
Perfect transitions.
Incredible voices.
All smiles.
[ALSO: Nice call with Jotto, Tam! The choral sample in Against the Background is badass.]

As mother of the lead singer, Raphaelle, I REALLY wish they would have stayed with the name Neighbourhood Council. Hey, Raphie, if you read this, I love you, but please go back to your original name. It’s way more original and interesting than Braids. Hello to Austin, Katie, Taylor and Vince (if you’re still hanging with them). And yes, you’re right, every time they play together they get better–but after all, they are still growing (literally). Wait and see how good they’ll be once they can legally drink booze in all provinces.
